The Junior Pacific Cup started in 2009. Australia and the USA have always had a great friendship and in particular Victoria and California. What better way to enjoy our friendship than to set up a Ryder Cup style tournament and format between the two countries. The US Consulate was the first to offer assistance to their team and have been a great support for the tournament at Yering Meadows. It is  a great way to see each others country, make new friends, and enjoy the friendly competition.

Yering Meadows, the Australian Home of the Junior Pacific Cup is again hosting the tournament.

Each year, alternatively at Bernado Heights in San Diego and at Yering Meadows in Melbourne, players get to stay with host families which has been a great experience for all.

In addition to great golf, we also get out to see the sights around our state. This year is going to be great.

The JPC is held this year at Bernardo Heights, Home of the Junior Pacific Cup in USA.

In the last 3 years both in Australia and the USA, the tournament after 3 days of playing came down to the last hole. This tournament is an unbelievable opportunity for junior golfers.

We thank GolfVic and the San Diego Junior Golf Association for their participation.

The Australian Team is selected by GolfVic.

Day 3

The beginning of the final day of the Junior Pacific Cup had the USA 6 ½ matches leading Australia 5 ½ matches.

The Australians took an early lead in the 18 hole individual matches and continued to impress while being watched by spectators and the Australian players parents. The conditions changed through the turn as light rain started to fall softening the greens. All players get along well while maintaining there intense competitive spirit. The USA only needed to three matches to win the Cup back, but the Aussies kept fighting hard all day to retain the Cup.

In the first match Australian Captain Ben Rogers met Garrett Cypher (USA). Rogers Started well going two up after three holes and then making the turn at one up. Rogers defeated Cypher four up with three holes to play.

The third match was the next to finish with Mitchell Sheather (AUS) defeating Jay Hwang (USA) 3/2. Sheather made five birdies in a row early in the match getting him to five up and setting up a solid win. Hwang showed some flair driving the green on the 280m par four 15th hole, and lipped out the 15 foot putt.

Bianca Ling (AUS) and Joyce Kim (USA) where contesting the fourth match of the day where Ling took the early lead before Kim pegged her back to all square by the 12th hole. Ling went to two up after a nice birdie on the par four 15th hole which set her up for a 2/1 win.

In the second match between Sean Ong (AUS) and Bobby Gojuangco (USA) turned out to be a more even match Ong taking the early lead before Gojuangco got it back to all square by the sixth hole. Ong lead one up through 12 holes, but Gojuangco persevered and eventually won the match one up.

Julienne Soo (AUS) and Brittany Mai (USA) contested the fifth match of the day. The match started closely before Soo gained the lead and got to three up at the 12th. Mai put added some late pressure on 17 knocking it to three foot before Soo answered by knocking it to four foot and holing the putt to win 2/1.

In the final match Ben Eccles (AUS) took an early lead from Byron Meth (USA) before Meth got to one up and held his lead through nine holes. Meth extended his lead to two up and looked to have the better of Eccles on the 12th. Meth defeated Eccles 2/1 but it wasn’t enough to get USA over the line.
